Finnish Lojer to acquire the Nordics’ largest supplier of acupuncture needles

The business acquisition will strengthen Lojer’s position as the market leader in the Nordic countries

Finnish hospital and care equipment manufacturer Lojer Group will purchase all of Swedish company Hegu Svenska Ab’s shares. Hegu Svenska Ab is the largest supplier of acupuncture needles in the Nordic countries. The deal will strengthen Lojer’s position as the Nordics’ leading distributor of physiotherapy equipment and products. The global market in acupuncture needles is approximately 8 billion items a year.

In the deal, Lojer Group’s Swedish subsidiary Medema Physio Ab will acquire the entire share capital of Hegu Svenska Ab, located in Landsbro, Sweden.  Hegu Svenska Ab is the largest manufacturer and distributor of acupuncture needles in the Nordic countries. Kinesiology tapes are also part of the company’s product range. Hegu’s business operations will move to Medema Physio’s premises in Kista. The company is sold by its founder Jan Fridsäll.

Hegu Svenska Ab’s acupuncture needles are sold widely online and directly to Sweden’s public health care services, for example. Their kinesiology tapes are sold in pharmacies. The acupuncture needles are also distributed by resellers to other European countries.

“Hegu Svenska Ab’s product range goes together perfectly with the product selection we already have in our online stores in Finland, Sweden and Norway. We are going to invest in the export of acupuncture needles, and use Lojer Group’s international networks to do so, “ says Ville Laine, Managing Director of Lojer.

In addition to Sweden, Lojer’s offices and online stores can be found in Finland, Norway and Russia. Lojer is the leading distributor of physiotherapy equipment and products in the Nordic countries. Approximately 60% of turnover comes from exports, with primary export markets being Scandinavia, Central Europe, Russia and East Asia.
